Chinese athletes preparing for the London Olympics have cut pork, beef and lamb from their diets to avoid disqualification by consuming substances banned under anti-doping rules.

Athletes preparing for the summer games are meeting protein needs by eating fish and protein powder. The Hindustan Times reports 196 athletes representing China’s National Aquatics Center stopped eating meat about 40 days ago.

Chinese pork has previously been contaminated with clenbuterol, a substance which could result in positive drug test.

The Olympics begin July 27, 2012.
