Including surprising advice to eat chocolate for breakfast, a registered dietician says steak is one of five menu items with negative health perceptions that you should eat to keep fit.

Introducing a ‘Small steps to a healthier you’ segment on NBC-TV’s "Today Show" last Thursday, Ann Curry covered the five forbidden foods you should be eating with dietitian and Self magazine blogger Sarah-Jane Bedwell.

“Research suggests that some of the things that many of us avoid can actually help us stay fit,” Curry said.

Bedwell started with chocolate for breakfast added to whole grains, protein and fruit, but continued with meat and potatoes.

The third food discussed was a sirloin steak with potatoes and asparagus. Bedwell said beef is part of a healthy diet under two conditions; to keep the portion size as big as the palm of your hand, and to select lean cuts. There are 29 lean cuts of beef, but to make it simpler, Bedwell says to select loin and round cuts.
