A run mimicking Spain’s running of the bulls attracted about 4,000 runners over the weekend in its first stop on a 10-city tour.

The run is a U.S. version of the run in Pamplona, Spain during the San Fermin festival. Other stops in the U.S. include Atlanta, Houston, Dallas and Chicago.

The first stop of the Great Bull Run tour took place at the Virginia Motorsports Park near Petersburg, Va. Runners took turns in waves of 500 as they were chased by a dozen bulls. The final wave had between 600 and 700 runners chased by 24 bulls according to The Baltimore Sun.

The bulls used in the run were provided by a ranch in Kentucky who also provides the animals for rodeos around the country. The Boston Globe reports the bulls are either sent back to the ranch, or travel to the next run after each event.

Most of the participants were between the ages of 18 and 40. Reuters reports two individuals were taken to the hospital with concussion-like symptoms and one other runner saw a medic after being knocked down and stepped on by other participants.
