U.S. beef export sales fell 19 percent last week, down for the fourth consecutive week and only 1,326 metric tons above the 27-week low. Beef export sales were 2,329 metric tons lower last week, totaling 9,724 MT. Sales were primarily to Mexico (3,300 MT), followed by Canada (2,800 MT), South Korea (1,600 MT), the Netherlands (1,000 MT), and Vietnam (800 MT).
A decrease in sales was reported for Japan (2,900 MT).
Beef export shipments jumped 18 percent higher, up 1,850 metric tons to 17,534 MT. Shipments reached a high for 2013, but are 234 MT below the 10-week high from late in 2012. Shipments were mainly to North American neighbors Canada (3,900 MT) and Mexico (2,600 MT). Other countries receiving shipments of U.S. beef include South Korea (2,400 MT), Vietnam (2,100 MT), and Japan (1,800 MT).
