Weekly beef exports fall, shipments steady

U.S. beef export sales fell 21 percent last week falling 3,768 metric tons to 14,188 MT. Beef export sales declined for the second consecutive week and have settled below the 27-week average. Net sales for delivery in 2013 were primarily to Mexico, purchasing 4,200 MT, followed by Vietnam (2,900 MT) and Canada (2,200 MT). Hong Kong and Egypt each purchased 1,200 metric tons of U.S. beef.

Beef export shipments remained fairly steady, increasing by five percent to 15,945 metric tons. The 697 MT increase over the previous week raises export shipments for the second consecutive week and moves weekly shipments to only 175 MT under the 27-week average. Export shipments were mainly to Mexico (3,700 MT), South Korea (3,000 MT), Canada (2,400 MT), Japan (1,900 MT), Vietnam (1,300 MT), and Hong Kong (1,200 MT).
