Facing high-priced grains and hay in short supply, beef producers will have an information source about feeding co-products to their herds at a Nov. 28 conference sponsored by University of Illinois Extension. The Beef Cattle Co-Products Conference will be held at the U of I Extension building on the Illinois State Fairgrounds.
"The conference program includes a number of national experts on the purchase and use of co-products to feed animals in cow-calf and feeding operations," said Dave Seibert, U of I Extension animal systems educator based in East Peoria. "Also featured are presenters from Illinois State University and Western Illinois University."
Joining Seibert on the program from the U of I are Larry Berger, a professor and researcher who has worked with co-products for over 20 years; Dan Faulkner, Extension beef specialist; and Vijay Singh, a professor who will discuss new co-products available from corn dry grind ethanol production.
Conference co-sponsors include the Illinois Corn Marketing Board, the Illinois Beef Association, and the Senator Simon E. Lantz Memorial Lecture Fund.
The conference opens with registration at 8:45 a.m. and concludes at 4:45 p.m. Registration is $18, which covers the meal and a bound copy of the proceedings. Late and at-door registration is $25. "Producers who are unable to attend the conference but want a copy of the proceedings can secure one for $10 following the conference," said Seibert.
