A series of special cattle industry events are designed to for anyone in the cattle industry who market cattle – as well as ranchers, cattle feeders and agricultural lenders. Cattle Buyers Summits will be held May 15 in Billings, Mont; May 22 in Chattanooga, Tenn. and July 11 in Kearney, NE. The events are designed to introduce the new initiatives of Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) programming to an audience across the region.

“These programs are intended for anyone who trades feeder cattle, fed cattle and non-fed beef animals,” said Clint Peck, director of BQA for Montana. “Cattle buyers are a very important segment of our industry and it’s our responsibility to keep them in the loop as to we’re doing in BQA programming.”

Part of the summits will include “Round Table” breakout sessions to allow participants to assess BQA programming and provide input into initializing BQA to better fit the needs of the industry’s cattle marketing segment.

As more and more feedyards, ranchers, truckers and others in the industry become BQA certified and buy into BQA principles and practices, Peck said it’s important that everyone in the beef production and marketing chain know what BQA is all about. Cattle buyers from across the country are being sent special invitations to attend the summits.

The list of speakers includes:

  • Jim Warren, 101 Livestock, Aromas, Caliif.
  • Emmitt Rawls, University of Tennessee
  • Kristen Larson, Prewitt & Co., Sidney, MT
  • Gary Smith, Colorado StateUniversity
  • Jim Robb, Livestock Marketing Information Center, Lakewood, Colo.
  • Andy Kellom, Verified Beef, Bozeman, MT
  • John Paterson, Montana StateUniversity
  • Eric Moore, DVM, Schering-Plough Animal Health

BQA is a producer-led concept to address pre-harvest production practices that increase beef demand and improve consumer confidence in the beef industry. Similar programs are being held this spring and summer in selected locations around the U.S. As a strong supporter of BQA, Schering-Plough Animal Health is the marquee sponsor of the Cattle Buyers Summits.

There’s no registration fee for the Cattle Buyers Summit, but seating is limited so anyone wanting to attend is asked to RSVP Mo Harbac, Montana Beef Network,
