Consolidated Beef Producers, Inc. (CBP) has selected Gary Kaplan of Bend, Oregon, to serve as Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Kaplan, who will begin his duties Jan. 15 at the CBP offices in Amarillo, Texas, was chosen from a field of highly qualified candidates, according to Paul Hitch of Guymon, Okla., CBP chairman. "The search committee was pleased with the talented individuals who applied for this position," Mr. Hitch says. "They possessed varied backgrounds and skills. Our goal was to find an individual who was well respected for his trading ability and has the vision to lead CBP to improve methods of marketing fed cattle."

According to Mr. Hitch, Mr. Kaplan brings a varied background to the position and has a wealth of trading experience. His background includes work with Dubuque Packing Company; the Kroger Company; Drexel, Burnham, Lambert and he has maintained a seat on the CME since 1979. While in Oregon, he was a cattle feeder, ran stocker cattle and operated a backgrounding facility.

"We look forward to working closely with Gary as he puts together a staff to help CBP members maximize the value of their cattle," Mr. Hitch says.
