Retail giant Costco has struck a deal with Tyson to test beef trimmings for food-borne pathogens, according to a News York Times article this week. According to the article, Costco will test trimmings it purchases from the packing company prior to blending with beef from other sources to produce the retailers ground-beef products.

The news follows last-week’s Times article that attacked the ground-beef production system, alleging that blending ingredients from various sources increases the danger of contamination.
