If you watch sports news and NFL recaps, you probably saw footage of New York Jets rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez on the bench snacking on a hot dog during Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders. Sanchez took criticism from the media, who apparently thought it inappropriate for a player to eat during a game. Sanchez explained that he had been sick for days, and finally felt able to eat while the game – a blowout win for the Jets – was underway.

According to news reports this week, Sanchez is turning the incident into something positive by donating 500 hot dogs and 500 hamburgers to a New Jersey soup kitchen. PETA folks probably will object, but I’ll bet the soup-kitchen patrons will enjoy their meal.
