Summertime includes five of the Limousin breed’s most notable shows – the Heartland Regional Junior Limousin Show, the Southeast Summer Classic (SSC), the Western Limousin Exposition (WLE), the National Junior Limousin Show and Congress (NJLSC), and the All-American Limousin Futurity (AALF). Their early-entry deadlines all are in May.
The Heartland show will be June 4–5 at the Westfair Fairgrounds in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The SSC will be June 11–13 at the Tennessee Livestock Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The WLE will be June 17–19 at the Klamath County Fairgrounds in Klamath Falls, Ore. The NJLSC and AALF will be July 3–9 at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in Hutchinson, Kan.
Chuck Ogren, Marcus, Iowa, will judge the Heartland entries. At the SSC, Brent Tolle, Lawrenceburg, Ky., will judge the Eastern Regional Junior Limousin Show, and David Lee, Woodsy Creek, Tenn., will officiate the Medal of Excellence (MOE) open show. At the WLE, Mike Hall, San Luis Obispo, Calif., will sort the Western Regional Junior Limousin Show entries, and Lance Sennett, Waynetown, Ind., will judge the MOE open show.
At the “Fireworks on the Frontier”-themed NJLSC, John Rayfield, College Station, Texas, will sort the owned females. Jered Shipman, Lockney, Texas, will evaluate the steer, bred-and-owned and Lim Flex® entries. Stacey Fisher and Jeff Stump, Great Bend, Kan., will judge the showmanship contests. Chris Mullinix, El Dorado, Kan., will officiate the fullblood, purebred and Lim Flex shows at the AALF, which is one of the North American Limousin Foundation’s (NALF’s) four major MOE events.
Early entries for the Heartland, SSC and WLE shows are due to NALF by May 1. Each accepts late entries until check-in. For more information about the Heartland event, contact Dean Summerbell, (612) 963-3799. The regional contacts for the SSC are Bruce Steelman, (615) 542-1364, and Hugh Montgomery, (270) 273-3246. The regional contact for the WLE is Dave Berry, (360) 769-0639.
Early entries for the NJLSC are due to NALF by May 15. June 10 is the final entry deadline.
The April issue of the Limousin World magazine included the AALF entry form, or breeders can request one by calling American Cattle Services (ACS) at (580) 597-3006. Those early-entry forms and fees are due to ACS by May 15. NJLSC exhibitors should note that their entries do not enter them automatically in any of the AALF shows.
For more information, call NALF at (303) 220-1693, or visit its Internet home page (www.nalf.org) and click the “Programs” or “Juniors” link on the left.
The North American Limousin Foundation (www.nalf.org), headquartered in Centennial, Colo., provides programs and services – including genetic evaluation of 5,000 active sires – to more than 4,000 members and their commercial customers. The Limousin breed and its Lim-Flex® hybrid lead the beef industry in muscle-growth efficiency and ideally complement British breeds.
