Mandatory price reporting will not begin tomorrow as planned to allow more time for testing the program's new electronic information collection system, USDA announced late last week.

The price reporting has been rescheduled to begin April 2.

Once implemented, the program will require producers and other market participants to report information about the marketing of live cattle, swine, and lambs and products of those livestock.

“This new effective date will ensure the confidentiality of those required to report the information while providing market participants with readily understood, accurate information on pricing, contracting for purchase, and supply and demand conditions for livestock, livestock production, and livestock products,” the USDA wrote in a release announcing the change.
