Prosecutors dropped thousands of child labor charges against two defendants from an Iowa kosher slaughterhouse and allowed the company to plead guilty to amended charges.

Prosecutors dropped the charges Tuesday against former Agriprocessors Inc. owner Aaron Rubashkin and human resources employee Laura Althouse.

Former Agriprocessors manager Sholom Rubashkin — the owner's son — still faces 83 charges in a trial that will begin with jury selection on Tuesday afternoon in District Court in Waterloo.

Sholom Rubashkin, the four others and the company originally faced more than 9,000 child labor charges.

Charges remain against former human resources manager Elizabeth Billmeyer and employee Karina Freund. Their trials will be held later.
