The number of cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in Colorado feedlots with a capacity of 1,000 head or larger was estimated at 960,000 head as of June 1, 2013. This latest inventory is the same as last month but down 6 percent from last year. Cattle feeders with 1,000 head or larger capacity marketed an estimated 150,000 head of fed cattle during May 2013, no change from last month but 12 percent below May 2012 marketings of 170,000 head. An estimated 170,000 cattle and calves were placed on feed during May, 21 percent above a monthago but 6 percent below May 2012 placements of 180,000. Of the number placed in May, 18percent weighed less than 600 pounds, 12 percent weighed from 600 to 699 pounds, 29 percent weighed from 700 to 799 pounds, and 41 percent weighed 800 pounds and greater. Other disappearance for May, at 20,000 head, was up 10,000 head from last month but the same aslast year.
