Idaho Cattle on Feed up 2 percent

Cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in Idaho from feedlots with a capacity of 1,000 or more head on April 1, 2012 totaled 225,000 head, up 2 percent from the previous year, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service.

The cattle on feed inventory is down 2 percent from March 1, 2012. Placements of cattle in feedlots with a capacity of 1,000 or more head during March totaled 34,000 head, down 1,000 head from March 2011 placements. Marketings of cattle from feedlots with 1,000 head or more during March totaled 38,000 head, up 4,000 head from last year. Other disappearance totaled 1,000 head during March.
