Kansas Cattle on Feed down 1 percent

Kansas feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 2.06 million cattle on feed on May 1, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Kansas Field Office. This inventory was down 1 percent from last year. This is the lowest May 1 inventory since 1999.

Placements during April totaled 350,000 head, up 17 percent from 2012. Fed cattle marketings for the month of April totaled 365,000 head, down 4 percent from last year. This is the lowest April marketings since 1994.

Other disappearance during April totaled 15,000 head, up 5,000 head from a year ago.
