Beef export sales higher with increases to Vietnam

Beef export sales improved by 17 percent last week to 18,521 metric tons with an increase of 2,740 MT. Net beef export sales increased for the second consecutive week, raising the four-week average. The increase moves sales above the 27-week average but over a thousand metric tons below the 10-week high. Increases were noted in Vietnam (3,300 MT), Mexico (3,100 MT), Japan (2,300 MT), Canada (2,100 MT) and Hong Kong (1,900 MT).

U.S. beef exports shipments fell 11 percent last week, down 2,067 metric tons to 16,353 MT. The drop ends three weeks of consecutive gains and falls 301 MT below the 27-week average. Shipments of U.S. beef were primarily to Japan, who received 3,500 metric tons. Bordering countries Mexico and Canada were second and third with 2,600 MT and 2,300 MT respectively. South Korea received 2,200 MT and Vietnam received 2,000 MT.
