IMPORT BEEF TRADE

Compared to Last Week:  Market activity on imported beef was slow and
prices were mostly 1.00 to 3.00 higher on a light market test. Nearby
sales firmed as buyers re-entered the marketplace and purchased the
available lean product for immediate delivery. The continuing fallout
concerning the use of lean finely textured beef (LFTB) pressured the
market but scarce supplies of boneless lean, the end of Lenten season
and stronger nearby demand pushed prices higher.
