U.S. beef export sales increased by 104 percent last week, doubling to 31,465 metric tons. The increase of 16,037 MT moves export sales higher for the second consecutive week. Export sales were primarily to Japan, purchasing 16,700 MT, followed by Hong Kong (4,200 MT) and Mexico (3,200 MT). South Korea and Canada purchased 2,800 MT and 1,200 MT respectively.
Export shipments experienced a small setback last week, down 1,178 metric tons to 13,452 MT. Shipments have declined for the fifth consecutive week and last week’s total is 1,222 MT below the 10-week average. Export shipments were primarily to Mexico (3,100 MT), Japan (2,800 MT), South Korea (1,800 MT), Canada (1,700 MT), and Vietnam (1,000 MT).
