Weekly beef export sales, shipments rebound

U.S. beef export sales increased by 19 percent last week, gaining 2,250 metric tons to total 14,001 MT. Last week’s gains recovered most of the previous week’s losses, however the total remains 1,701 MT under the 27-week average. Sales increases were noted for Mexico (4,900 MT), South Korea (2,600 MT) and Canada (2,300 MT). Japan and  Egypt purchased 1,900 MT and 700 MT respectively. Even with the increased sales totals this week, the four-week average decreased by 3 percent from the previous figure.

Net sales of 1,700 MT for delivery in the 2013 marketing year were primarily for Japan (300 MT), Taiwan (300 MT), South Korea (300 MT), Hong Kong (200 MT), and Canada (200 MT). 

Export shipments also moved higher, up 19 percent to 16,341 metric tons. Export shipments were primarily to Mexico, receiving 3,600 MT, followed by South Korea (2,900 MT), Canada (2,700 MT), Japan (2,200 MT) and Hong Kong (1,200 MT).
