U.S. beef export shipments improved by 7,924 metric tons last week, up 108 percent from the previous week. Last week’s gains recover most of the previous two weeks’ losses, however gains weren’t enough to move exports above the 27-week average. Shipments were primarily to Mexico (3,700 MT), Japan (2,800 MT) and Canada (2,400 MT). Shipments of 1,800 MT and 1,100 MT went to South Korea and Hong Kong respectively.
Weekly beef export sales returned to normal, totaling 17,956 metric tons. Sales were primarily to Japan, who purchased 4,600 metric tons. Other countries with high net sales for delivery in 2013 include South Korea (3,600 MT), Mexico (3,500 MT), Canada (2,600 MT) and Egypt (900 MT).
