Oleen Brothers is a commercial and registered cow/calf operation located in the heart of the Kansas Flint Hills. Both Horned Hereford and Black Angus cattle make up the spring and fall calving herds with a majority of the registered cows calving in the fall. Oleen Brothers expects their cows to do more than wean off a big calf and breed back every year. Their cows must produce a calf that will perform in the feedlot, on the rail and on the dinner plate! They expect their cows to produce good heifer calves and good bull calves.
Positive performance for all aspects of beef production is demanded in the cowherd. They take birth weights, 205 day weights and weigh their calves as yearlings. They have performance EPD's, they ultrasound their entire registered calf crop (both bulls and heifers) and they believe in the Angus ultrasound EPD's.
Their firm belief in gathering performance information on all of their cattle has led them to be involved in several different venues. They participate in the Kansas Carcass and Performance Test, National Reference Sire Program and are founding members of U.S. Premium Beef with 200-450 cattle fed processed yearly through this program.
The Oleen Brothers’ annual production sale is the fourth Monday in March with the 2006 sale marking their 20th consecutive sale. The sale features Horned Hereford and Black Angus bulls, Foundation Bred Quarter Horses, F1 Black Baldy Heifers with calves at side along with Angus, Hereford and Black Baldy fall bred heifers.
