National Slaughter Cattle Summary - Week Ending May 4, 2012
Compared to last week: A few dressed cattle sold 1.00 higher
in Nebraska. No live cattle sales reported at this time.
Slaughter rates continue light as feedyards try to hold out for
better prices.
Boxed beef prices Friday morning averaged 188.26 down .69 from
last Friday. The Choice/Select spread is at 3.90. Slaughter cattle
on a national basis for negotiated cash trades through Friday morning
totaled about 24,094 head. Last week's total head count was 52,385.
Midwest Direct Markets:
Live Basis: Steers and Heifers
35-80 Percent Choice, 1200-1400 lbs No trade.
Dressed Basis: Steers and Heifers: few 195.00.
South Plains Direct Markets:
Live Basis: Steers and Heifers
35-65 percent Choice, 1100-1400 lbs No trade.
Slaughter Cows and Bulls (Average Yielding Prices):
Slaughter cows 1.00-2.00 higher. Slaughter bulls 2.00-3.00
higher.
USDA's Cutter cow carcass cut-out value Friday morning was 177.03
up .49 from last Friday.
