National Slaughter Cattle Summary - Week Ending January 04, 2013
Compared to last week: Slaughter cattle trade has not been
established as of Friday just after noon. Feed yards and packers are
about 4.00 apart from asking and bids. Boxed beef prices rose slightly
amid the last 2 weeks of limited slaughter days due to Holidays.
Boxed beef cut-out values Friday morning averaged 188.48 up 1.59 from
last Friday. The Choice/Select spread is currently 12.67. Sales of
slaughter cattle on a national basis for negotiated cash trades through
Friday morning totaled 4,843 head. Last week the full count was 82,478
head.
Midwest Direct Markets:
Live Basis: Steers and Heifers
35-80 Percent Choice, 1200-1400 lbs not established
Dressed Basis: Steers and Heifers
35-80 percent Choice, 800-950 lbs not established.
High Plains Direct Markets:
Live Basis: Steers and Heifers
35-65 percent Choice, 900-1400 lbs not established.
Slaughter Cows and Bulls (Average Yielding Prices):
Slaughter cows and bulls remain untested thru the Holidays as auction
barns were closed for the holidays.
USDA's Cutter cow carcass cut-out value Friday morning was 163.10 up
1.14 from last Friday's close.
