National Slaughter Cattle Summary - Week Ending March 22, 2013
Compared to last week: Slaughter cattle trading mostly 2.00 lower
with a few dressed sales in Nebraska 3.00 lower. Beef prices
continue lower with limited demand.
Boxed beef prices Friday noon averaged 192.60 down 2.25 from
last Friday. The Choice/Select spread is at -.87. Slaughter cattle on a
national basis for negotiated cash trades through Friday noon totaled
about 63,977 head. Last week's total head count was 77,254
Midwest Direct Markets:
Live Basis: Steers and Heifers
35-80 Percent Choice, 1200-1400 lbs: 124.00-125.50
Dressed Basis: Steers and Heifers: few 198.00
South Plains Direct Markets:
Live Basis: Steers and Heifers
35-65 percent Choice, 1100-1400 lbs: 125.00
Slaughter Cows and Bulls (Average Yielding Prices):
Slaughter cows and bulls steady to 2.00 lower.
USDA's Cutter cow carcass cut-out value Friday morning was 171.97
up .92 from last Friday.
