Feeder Cattle Auction for 05/19/2014
Receipts: 205 Week Ago: 756 Year Ago: 719
Compared to last week, not enough feeder steers or heifers to
establish a trend. Slaughter cows steady. Bulk of the receipts cows
with only a few small packages of calves in the offering. It’s old
and repetitious news but cattle futures at the CME surged to new
all-time highs on Monday, again. Some feeder cattle months trading
up the 3.00 limit, and yearling prices even for next spring closing
over 190.00! If the mama cows knew how much they were worth these days
they would probably go on strike demanding bigger pastures and an
air conditioned barn for the summer. Demand good and the supply
light. Cows and bulls accounted for 75 percent of the run and feeders
25 percent. In the feeder supply, steers and bulls made up approximately
50 percent of the run; heifers 50 percent; steers and heifers over
600 lbs totaled around 15 percent.
Scheduling note: No sale Memorial Day. The next feeder sale is
Monday, June 2nd.
Feeder Steers and Heifers mostly scarce.
