Kansas Cattle on Feed down 10 percent

Kansas feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 2.00 million cattle on feed on October 1, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. This inventory was down 10 percent from last year. This is the lowest October 1 inventory since 1996.

Placements during September totaled 390,000 head, up 4 percent from 2012.

Fed cattle marketings for the month of September totaled 355,000 head, up 15 percent from last year.

Other disappearance during September totaled 15,000 head, unchanged from a year ago.
