Kansas Cattle on Feed down 4 percent

Kansas feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 2.09 million cattle on feed on April 1, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Kansas Field Office.

This inventory was down 4 percent from last year. This is the lowest April 1 inventory since 1999. Placements during March totaled 425,000 head, up 13 percent from 2012.

Fed cattle marketings for the month of March totaled 360,000 head, down 9 percent from last year. This is the lowest March marketings since 1998.

Other disappearance during March totaled 25,000 head, up 15,000 head from a year ago.
