The number of cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in Colorado feedlots with a capacity of 1,000 head or larger was estimated at 1,090,000 head as of December 1, 2010. The latest inventory remained unchanged from November 1, 2010, but is up 3 percent from the 1,060,000 on feed on December 1, 2009.
Cattle feeders with 1,000 head or larger capacity marketed an estimated 150,000 head of fed cattle during November 2010. This was 12 percent below October 2010 marketings of 170,000 head but 7 percent above a year ago. An estimated 155,000 cattle and calves were placed on feed during November, down 6 percent from a year ago and 43 percent below the October 2010 placements of 270,000. Of the number placed in November, 29 percent weighed less than 600 pounds, 26 percent weighed from 600 to 699 pounds, 19 percent weighed from 700 to 799 pounds, and 26 percent weighed 800 pounds and greater. Other disappearance for November, at 5,000 head, was unchanged from November 2009 but 5,000 below October 2010.
