Cattle Outlook: Calf crop predicted down for 16th year
USDA's July cattle inventory report said the midyear cattle inventory was down 1.1% compared to July 1, 2010 and predicted the 2011 calf crop would total 35.5 million head, down 0.5% from last year, down for the 16th consecutive year, and the smallest calf crop since 1950.

Kansas Cattle on Feed up 2 percent
The number of cattle on feed on May 1, 2011 in Kansas feedlots with 1,000 head or more capacity totaled 2.17 million head, up 2 percent from a year ago but down 1 percent from April 1. Placements during April totaled 380,000 head, up 21 percent from April 2010 but down 8 percent from March.

Idaho Cattle on Feed up 10 Percent
Cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in Idaho from feedlots with a capacity of 1,000 or more head on May 1, 2011 totaled 230,000 head, up 10 percent from the previous year, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service.
