National Slaughter Cattle Summary - Week Ending May 25, 2012
Compared to last week: Slaughter cattle traded 2.00 lower on
a live basis while dressed sales were 1.00 lower. Many feedyards
caved middle of the week as cattle futures declined. Slaughter
rates remain fairly strong though still less than a year ago, however
slaughter weights are well above last year.
Boxed beef prices Friday morning averaged 190.40 up .87 from
last Friday. The Choice/Select spread is at 8.61. Slaughter cattle
on a national basis for negotiated cash trades through Friday morning
totaled about 101,636 head. Last week's total head count was 123,191.
Midwest Direct Markets:
Live Basis: Steers and Heifers
35-80 Percent Choice, 1200-1400 lbs 122.00 to mostly 123.00.
Dressed Basis: Steers and Heifers: 194.00, few 195.00.
South Plains Direct Markets:
Live Basis: Steers and Heifers
35-65 percent Choice, 1100-1400 lbs 121.00.
Slaughter Cows and Bulls (Average Yielding Prices):
Slaughter cows and bulls sold mostly steady, instance 2.00 higher
in the southeast.
USDA's Cutter cow carcass cut-out value Friday morning was 179.28
unchanged from last Friday.
