   National Slaughter Cattle Summary - Week Ending April 05, 2013

   Compared to last week:  Slaughter cattle sold mostly steady.  Dressed 
basis sales in Nebraska steady to 1.00 lower.  Packer demand moderate to 
good.  
   Boxed beef prices Friday noon averaged 189.99 up 1.13 from 
last Friday.  The Choice/Select spread is at 3.40.  Slaughter cattle 
on a national basis for negotiated cash trades through Friday noon 
totaled about 111,350 head. Last week's total head count was 115,525.

Midwest Direct Markets: 
Live Basis: Steers and Heifers 
   35-80 Percent Choice, 1200-1400 lbs:  128.00
   Dressed Basis:  Steers and Heifers:   204.00-205.00

South Plains Direct Markets: 
Live Basis: Steers and Heifers 
   35-65 percent Choice, 1100-1400 lbs:  126.00-127.00

Slaughter Cows and Bulls (Average Yielding Prices):
   Slaughter cows and bulls unevenly steady.  
   USDA's Cutter cow carcass cut-out value Friday morning was 170.50
down .24 from last Friday.
