National feeder cattle review: Higher prices, heavy receipts
Compared to last week, feedlot bound steers and heifers ended the weekly trading session mostly steady to 2.00 higher. Some major auction markets (like the Oklahoma National Stockyards) posted sharper gains on Monday with no fear of the futures market shifting during a President’s Day closure and on the heels of last week’s confidence-building 110.00 fed cattle trade.

National feeder cattle report: Snowstorms, Light receipts
Snowstorms and bitter cold temperatures hampered mainstream feeder cattle marketing throughout most of the major production areas for the third week in a row. The most recent blizzard cut a path through the Southern Plains and the lower Midwest; coating central Texas with ice and dumping an additional 2-20 inches of snow across Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri with actual temperatures as much as 30 degrees below zero.

Compared to last week, the nation’s feeder cattle trade was wrapped up in a classic weather market scenario as a huge blizzard moved across the central portion of the United States. Bitter cold temperatures and up to twenty inches of snow fell from Texas up through the Great Lakes Region, before moving on to the Northeast.

National Feeder Cattle Report: All-Time Highs For All Weights
Compared to the pre-holiday sales of three weeks ago, feeder cattle prices gained 2.00-5.00 with calves under 500 lbs selling 3.00-7.00 higher and as much as 10.00 higher in some marketing areas. The holiday season merely offered a slowdown for cattle industry members to reflect on how amazing the market rally was during the latter part of 2010, and did not hamper or impede the demand for calves and yearlings.

National Feeder Cattle Report: Lightweight Calf Prices Show No Signs Of Weakening
Compared to last week, feeder steers and heifers sold unevenly steady to 2.00 higher with continued good demand at the lofty price levels but some weakness was noted near the graze-out wheat region. Lightweight calf prices still showed no signs of weakening with weekly trends ranging firm to 5.00 higher with aggressive bidding for all classes of stockers with little regard for quality.
