Compared to last week: Domestic Alfalfa traded mostly steady in all regions this
week, instances of 5.00 lower in Region 6. Retail/Stable hay traded mostly
steady. Export hay traded mostly steady. Demand moderate to good for all
classes with moderate trade activity. Northern California has started baling in
many regions, excluding the Intermountain region. Rain in the past few weeks has
proven cumbersome for many in the baling process. An increase of rain damage,
high moisture hay continues to enter the marketplace with wide ranges in price
noted across the board. The bulk of trading lies largely in the Central Valley
regions. Hay trade in region 6 has slowed on decreased dairy interest.
Resistance to price continues to be noted. Quality is changing slightly in the
area with a little more moisture to the hay. Sudan and Klein grass pricing
expected in the next few weeks. All prices are reported FOB the stack or barn
unless otherwise noted.
