St Joseph, MO Fri May 25, 2012 USDA Market News Service
Compared to last week: Domestic Alfalfa traded steady to 10.00 lower in all
regions except Sacramento Valley, 20.00 lower on mid-range to lower quality hay.
Retail/Stable hay traded 10.00 lower on all hay types in all regions. Export hay
traded mostly steady to firm, majority of trade in Imperial Valley/Blythe
regions. Demand moderate at best for all classes with moderate trade activity.
Northern California has witnessed a sharp decline on hay prices as a greater
percentage of overgrown hay is entering the marketplace. Higher testing hay is
proving harder to find. Imperial Valley and Blythe areas continue to trade
steady, exporters remaining aggressive in the market. Retail/stable hay has
declined the past week as quality changes. Sudan grass pricing is expected to
establish in the next week. All prices are reported FOB the stack or barn unless
otherwise noted.
