California Weekly Hay Report
Compared to last week: Domestic Alfalfa traded mostly steady, instances of 10.00
lower on upper quality hay in the Central Valley regions. Trading moderate to
good in all regions. The Northern Intermountain regions are in full swing on
cutting with the long-term weather outlook remaining clear. Producers are noting
great baling conditions. Central California traded slightly slower with
resistance present on all classes of hay. Imperial Valley/Blythe areas continue
to trade steadily with wind exposure being an issue to some producers. Hay
quality is lowering as temperatures and wind continues to affect baling.
Imperial Valley and Blythe areas continue to trade steady, exporters remaining
aggressive in the market. Retail/stable hay prices have leveled this past week,
the only softening noted on lower qualities. Sudan grass pricing is beginning to
establish, trading at similar values when compared to last year. All prices are
reported FOB the stack or barn unless otherwise noted.
