California Hay Report



   Compared to last week: Prices traded mostly steady in most areas.  Demand 

remained very good in all regions on active trading activity.  The supply of hay 

in California is very tight as all regions are in full production.  Region 6 is 

facing the summer heat and quality of hay is dropping.  The summer also is 

bringing on the water usage from wells and they have been dropping and 

maintenance to extend those wells are a month or two out for the service.  Hay 

is also being put into storage in region 6.  All prices reported FOB at the 

stack or barn unless otherwise noted. Regions are defined at bottom of report.

Tuolumne, Mono, Merced, Mariposa. 

Region 4: Central San Joaquin Valley: Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare, and 

Inyo. 

Region 5: Southern California: Kern, Northeast Los Angeles, and Western San 

Bernardino.   

Region 6: Southeast California: Eastern San Bernardino, Riverside, and 

Imperial.



Alfalfa hay test guidelines, (for domestic livestock use and not more than 

10% grass), used with visual appearance and intent of sale Quantitative 

factors are approximate and many factors can affect feeding value.

100% dry matter, TDN both 90% and 100%.
