California Hay Report



   Compared to last week: Premium and Supreme hay is mostly steady.  Demand very 

light to light on low test hay and good to very good on milk test hay.  

According to the USDA Drought Monitor; Given the 3-year duration of the drought, 

California’s topsoil moisture (80% very short to short) and subsoil moisture 

(85%) reserves are nearly depleted. Prices reported FOB at the stack or barn 

unless otherwise noted. Regions are defined at bottom of report.

Alfalfa hay test guidelines, (for domestic livestock use and not more than 

10% grass), used with visual appearance and intent of sale Quantitative 

factors are approximate and many factors can affect feeding value.
