Weekly East River South Dakota Hay Market
All prices per ton, unless noted, FOB the stack.
Compared to last week, all classes remain fully steady, with firmer
prices noted on the higher quality Alfalfa. Good demand remains for
both high quality dairy hay and for low quality grinding type hay.
Moisture is forecasted for today and the weekend in the form of snow
with Eastern South Dakota expecting 2-6 inches and western parts of the
state expecting 6-10 inches. Corn stalk baling is still happening, although
at a much slower pace than previously as most fields have either had cows
turned out on them or been tilled. The open grazing conditions so far have
helped to stretch short hay supplies however moisture in any form is needed
to help replace the soil moisture for next year.
