Weekly East River South Dakota Hay Market

Compared to last week, all classes remain steady. Good demand for all qualities of hay.
Interest has picked up in the last week especially for stock cow hay with many cattle producers
getting closer to calving. Hay supplies continue to be tight. Several producers are reporting
that they are sold out for the year or are down to just a few loads left to sell. A cold snap
throughout the area had some producers reporting that their sales were down for the week.
Snow is forecasted for the weekend and into the early parts of next week.
Alfalfa: Premium: Large Rounds, 280.00. Good to Premium: Large Rounds, 275.00.
Good: Large Rounds, 245.00-250.00. Fair to Good: Large Rounds and Large Squares, 245.00.
Sun-cured Alfalfa pellets: 16 pct 315.00, 15 pct 305.00. Alfalfa Meal: 17
pct 318.00.
Grass: Good: Large ROunds, 150.00-180.00. CRP: Large Rounds, 135.00-150.00.
Cattails: Large Rounds 90.00-125.00.
Cornstalks: Large Rounds, 70.00-75.00.
Wheat Straw: Large Squares, 120.00-125.00; Small Squares, 4.50 per bale.
