Weekly East River South Dakota Hay Market
All prices per ton, unless noted, FOB the stack.
Compared to last week, all classes remain mostly steady. Very good demand for all qualities
of hay. Very good interest this week by buyers, as many seem to be preparing ahead of the winter
storm that is forecasted to hit the region Sunday with anywhere from 4-8 inches of snow for the
Sioux Falls area and as much as 12-18 inches of snow for the northern parts of the state.
The margin between high quality alfalfa and grinding quality is narrowing. Hay supplies
continue to be tight. Several producers are reporting that they are sold out for the year
or are down to just a few loads left to sell.
