Weekly East River South Dakota Hay Market

Compared to last week: Alfalfa hay mostly steady; grass hay steady;
straw 10.00 lower. Alfalfa pellets and meal steady. Good demand for
dairy quality alfalfa, light to moderate for lower quality alfalfa, good
demand for high quality grass to start calves on feed, light demand for
lower quality grass hay. 3rd cutting alfalfa has been slow to put up with
scattered showers and high humidity creating difficult drying conditions.
The northern part of the state received rain showers mid week with reports
of up to 1 inch. Thunderstorms forecast for the majority of the region for
the weekend. All hay and straw sold by the ton FOB, unless otherwise noted.
Alfalfa: Supreme: Large Squares, 220.00-225.00. Premium to Supreme:
Large Squares, 250.00. Premium: Large Squares, 195.00 Del short haul;
Large Rounds, 190.00 Del short haul. Good: Large Rounds, 180.00-225.00 in SE SD,
150.00 in NE SD. Fair: Large Squares, 175.00.
Sun-cured Alfalfa pellets: 15 pct 235.00; 17 pct 240.00. Alfalfa Meal: 17
