Weekly East River South Dakota Hay Market
All prices per ton, unless noted, FOB the stack.
Compared to last week: Alfalfa hay steady to 10.00 higher, grass hay
too lightly tested. Very good demand for high relative feed value alfalfa,
moderate demand for hay fitting the Fair and Good grades, light demand for
Utility grade hay. Supplies of high testing hay are much tighter than the
lower testing supply as it was very a challenging hay making year due to
untimely rains. A light reported volume of hay this week as corn harvest
is going hot and heavy with a wonderful week weather wise with highs in the
low to mid 70’s and only a 1/3 to 1/2 inch of rain in the SE SD and just
a sprinkle to the north. Some corn stalk baling is occurring already.
All hay and straw sold by the ton FOB,
unless otherwise noted.
