Farmers anticipate big corn acreage
This week’s highly anticipated Prospective Plantings report from USDA offers the first indication of what we can expect from the 2013 corn crop. As expected with corn prices as high as they are, farmers intend to seed a lot of acres to corn – 97.3 million acres by USDA’s survey-based estimates. That estimate is up slightly from last year’s corn acreage and would represent the highest U.S. planted acreage since 1936.

USDA: Soybean sales set marketing-year low again
The USDA reported in its latest U.S. Exports Sales report that corn net sales of 122,800 metric tons (MT) for the 2011-2012 marketing year were down 30 percent from last week, but up 31 percent from the 4-week average.

High world grain production and supplies are lowering prices making grain imports for many countries more attractive. World wheat trade for 2011/12 (July-June international trade year) is projected to reach 136.6 million tons, up 2.0 million this month, but 6.3 million tons below the 2008//09 record.

According to the USDA's latest World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimate report, U.S. feed grain supplies for 2011/2012 are projected lower with reduced corn and oats production more than offsetting small increases for sorghum and barley.
