Beef export sales down 12 percent

U.S. beef export sales fell 2,738 metric tons last week, totaling 20,748 MT. Last week’s sales fell 12 percent from the previous week, but the four-week average is five percent higher than the previous four-week average. U.S. beef export sales increased for South Korea (5,900 MT), Mexico (3,500 MT) and Japan (2,900 MT). Canada and Russia purchased 2,400 MT and 1,900 MT respectively.

Shipments of U.S. beef increased by less than half of one percent last week, up 63 metric tons to 16,839 MT. Beef export shipments have steadily increased for three consecutive weeks. Shipments were primarily to South Korea who imported 5,900 metric tons, followed by Mexico (3,100 MT), Japan (2,300 MT), Canada (2,100 MT) and Russia (1,600 MT).
