U.S. beef export sales up 9 percent

Net beef export sales increased by 1,360 metric tons last week, ending two consecutive weeks of declines and moving above the 27-week average. Increased sales were reported for Mexico, up 4,000 MT, followed by Japan (2,500 MT) and Egypt (2,400 MT). Sales to South Korea and Canada were 2,100 MT each. The four-week average of net U.S. beef export sales fell 8 percent.

U.S. beef export shipments increased 5.5 percent last week and increased for the fifth consecutive week. Shipments totaled 18,618 MT and continue to slowly approach the 27-week high of 23,261 MT. Beef exports were primarily to Mexico, who received 4,300 metric tons of U.S. beef. South Korea was the second highest, receiving 3,500 MT, followed by Japan (2,600 MT), Russia (2,200 MT) and Canada (1,700 MT).
