New coalition tells story of Missouri food producers

AgNewsWire– Missouri farmers work hard to put safe, nutritious, affordable food on every Missourian’s plate. They are stewards of the land and take pride in caring for their animals.

Recently several Missouri-based businesses announced the formation of a coalition, Missouri Farmers Care (MFC), to promote the continued growth of Missouri farmers and agriculture through a variety of communication, education and advocacy efforts. “Understanding the truth about modern agriculture, food production and farm life is important for all Missourians,” says Don Nikodim, organization chairman. “Missouri Farmers Care is committed to sharing the truth with Missouri families and how agriculture impacts their lives.”

The Missouri Beef Industry Council (MBIC) is one of the state’s agricultural organizations involved with Missouri Farmers Care. “MBIC is thrilled to be able to leverage beef checkoff dollars with other commodities in order to share agriculture with Missourians” said executive director John Kleiboeker. “Many of our farmers raise both livestock and crops, all of which eventually become food, fuel or fiber that makes our lives better.  I makes sense to work together to share the story of farming and ranching in Missouri!”

The Missouri Farmers Care website launched Friday, March 25, encourages people to find out more about farmers and how food gets from field to plate. You will find stories from farmers around the state who farm because they care. Click on the YouTube icon to see videos of these farmers and the recently released “HSUS Revealed!” “This video provides a great snapshot into HSUS’ true intentions by revealing significant cracks in the image the organization chooses to portray,” says Dr. Alan Wessler, a veterinarian in Columbia, Mo.

An awareness campaign for the coalition is also being planned for this summer. To learn more or to become a member of Missouri Farmers Care, visit www.MissouriFarmersCare.com.

As of March 30, 2011, members of Missouri Farmers Care include Missouri Soybean Association, Missouri Pork Association, Missouri Beef Industry Council, Inc., Missouri Dairy Association, Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, MO Federation of Animal Owners, Missouri Egg Council, Inc., Missouri Agribusiness Association, FCS Financial, Missouri Dairy Growth Council, Missouri Veterinary Medical Association, Missouri Corn Growers Association, MFA Incorporated, Cargill, Missouri Farm Bureau, Missouri Rural Electric Cooperatives, and Missouri Pet Breeders.
