A Nebraska man guilty of buying and selling cattle without paying a sale barn and assisting to move stolen cattle across state lines has been sentenced to almost three years in federal prison.

Allen John Foos, 48, pleaded guilty to buying 167 cattle with an $117,000 check which bounced. Foos later paid $50,000 but failed to settle the balance.

Foos previously used an alias and middlemen to purchase cattle from Callaway Livestock Center in Callaway County, Mo. The Associated Press reports Foos paid for some cattle only after he was able to sell them in a later transaction. Other purchases from the Livestock Center were never paid.

In addition to two years and 11 months in federal prison, he must also pay $244,676 in restitution to victims.
