Another case of stolen cattle in southwest Missouri shows the importance of identifying livestock ownership.

Among the steps to deter cattle theft and prove rightful ownership of cattle, branding is one of the most effective.

KY3 reports a group of agencies in Lawrence Counties will show farmers how to identify cattle in an upcoming demonstration. The cattle branding event takes place March 26 and will focus on branding laws, choosing a brand and primary locations to place the brand. The demonstration will be done with hot iron and freeze brands.

Event hosts include the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office, Southwest Missouri Cattlemen's Association, University of Missouri Extension and the Jackie Moore Ranch.
