TSCRA investigation jails million dollar cattle rustler

A Missouri man using a third party in Oklahoma to purchase almost a million dollars worth of cattle three years ago was arrested for failing to pay for the livestock.

Donald Garrett asked Robb Taylor, owner of Perkins Livestock, to purchase 1,200 head of cattle valued at $932,000. Taylor, who had worked with Garrett before, did not ask for a signed contract and operated on trust alone.

After Garrett failed to pay for the cattle, the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and the Oklahoma City Economic and Identity Crimes Task Force launched a three-year investigation, ending with Garrett in handcuffs. Garrett, 58, is charged with one count of obtaining property under false pretenses in Payne County, Oklahoma.

Taylor purchased Perkins Livestock six months before the business deal with Garrett. He’s refinanced his business and borrowed money from family members to keep his operation going.

The investigation is ongoing. Garrett is being held on a $100,000 bond.
